Seven National Policymaker Organizations Awarded Grants for Initiatives to Reverse Childhood Obesity

Washington, D.C., Feb. 16, 2010 – Seven organizations representing policy-makers from across the country have received a total of nearly $2 million in grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to help communities increase children’s access to affordable healthy foods and opportunities for physical activity.

Top Policy Groups Take Action to Create Healthy Communities, Prevent Childhood Obesity
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Eleven of the nation’s most prominent policy-maker groups have endorsed a host of comprehensive policy strategies and environmental changes to create healthier communities and help reverse the childhood obesity epidemic. Leadership for Healthy Communities Urges Officials to Build Healthier Communities with ARRA Funds

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 that President Barack Obama recently signed into law can be used to support projects that curtail the childhood obesity epidemic, according to a policy brief that Leadership for Healthy Communities released to the public today.

Council of State Governments Supports New Fitness Center for Students with RWJF Grant

LEWIS COUNTY, Tenn.  Although it's located in a normal-looking classroom, the new Lewis County Fitness Center is about as far from normal as you can get. Instead of desks, the room at Lewis County Middle School is filled with the latest in fitness equipment, including weight machines like you might find at an adult gym, but all of it is child-sized to make exercise fun and easy.
