Bridging the Gap is a $33.6 million joint project of the University of Illinois at Chicago's Health Policy Center (the “ImpacTeen” component of the initiative) and the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research (the Youth, Education and Society component of the initiative). BTG aims to improve our understanding of the effects of policies, practices and other environmental factors on youth diet, physical activity, overweight and BMI, as well as on alcohol consumption, illicit drug use and tobacco use. In addition to evaluating the effectiveness of policies and environmental conditions in reducing obesity and substance use among youth, it also provides ongoing measurements of change in these conditions over time, particularly in the nation’s schools and communities. AFRICAN AMERICAN COLLABORATIVE OBESITY RESEARCH NETWORK

Communities Creating Healthy Environments (C-CHE) program is a national funding and capacity building initiative to support diverse, community-based organizations and tribal groups in the development and implementation of effective, culturally competent, policy initiatives to address childhood obesity at the local level. Active Living by Design is a $16.5-million national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and is a part of the UNC School of Public Health in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This program establishes innovative approaches to increase physical activity through community design, public policies and communications strategies. Active Living Research
Active Living Research is a $12.5-million national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Active Living Research supports research to identify environmental factors and policies that influence physical activity. With an interest on reversing the rise of childhood obesity, much of our research focuses on active living related to youth in low-income and high-risk communities. Findings from this research will be used to help inform policy, design of the built environment, and other factors to promote active living. Active Living Resource Center (ALRC)
The role of the Active Living Resource Center (ALRC) is to provide you with the resources and tools to help make walking and bicycling part of the lifestyle of healthy communities. ALRC links communities to important resources and helps them implement programs that result in activity-friendly environments. HealthY Eating Research
Healthy Eating Research is a $16-million national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The program supports research on environmental and policy strategies to promote healthy eating among children to prevent childhood obesity, especially among the low-income and racial and ethnic populations at highest risk for obesity. Findings are expected to advance RWJF's efforts to reverse the trend in prevalence of childhood obesity by 2015. National Center for Bicycling and Walking (NCBW)
The mission of the National Center for Bicycling & Walking (NCBW) is to help create bicycle-friendly and walkable communities across North America by encouraging and supporting the efforts of individuals, organizations, and agencies. We believe communities should be planned, designed and managed to ensure that people of all ages and abilities can walk and bike easily, safely, and regularly. We believe that the changes needed to make communities more physically active and livable places will be achieved only through sustained action at the local level – in each community – supported by positive national, state, and local policies and programs. To this end, the NCBW provides bicycle and pedestrian advocates and professionals, transportation engineers and planners, public health specialists, and others with easy access to the information, training, tools, and experts they need to foster active living through community design.
